So it is time for some #MYFREEDOMDAY. #MYFREEDOMDAY is Tuesday, March 16. Unlike years past, we won’t be doing onsite collections, but you can still participate. We are paring down this year due to ….well, this year, but we are still gonna get it done & raise awareness.
IF you would like to make a monetary donation, as we won’t collecting goods onsite this year, below is a letter that is going home to all parents and students with links to volunteer. If you are new, check out the CNN video segment your students were featured in last February…probably the last time I wore a dress or earrings…but pretty sure I’ve added a good 10 lbs. since then

Since our inaugural year, in 2016-2017 school year, our NSCHS Freshman Academy has committed to participating in a class-wide community service project. One of our Spartan parents, Lisa Cohen, Kyle & Ryan’s mom, approached the academy about supporting CNN’s Freedom Project, for which, she is a director. The Freedom Project, founded in 2011, was created to spread awareness, understanding and support for change against the many forms of modern-day slavery in the world today. As part of the Freedom Project, CNN created a day solely dedicated to raising awareness on this issue. This year, pledging to spread awareness and fighting to end modern day slavery is greater than ever during this global pandemic. This year, #MYFREEDOMDAY is Tuesday, March 16, 2021.
In the past, the Freshman Academy has raised awareness and coordinated a school-wide collection for toiletries for a local organization, Street Grace. The Street Grace team goes onto our streets spreading awareness, hope, and seeking to save survivors of human trafficking in Atlanta. With these toiletries, our students packed over 500 Street Grace packs with notes of support to be distributed to those on the streets that are falling prey to human trafficking. Unfortunately, as all things have been this year, we have to alter our plans from past years. We are unable to have mass collections due to the small number of students on campus this year. Have no fear, this year, the Freshman Academy in conjunction with the entire Spartan community would like to continue the tradition of spreading awareness and our support to help put an end to modern-day slavery.

Our #MYFREEDOMDAY 2021 Plan:
- #MYFREEDOMDAY/ STREET GRACE Toiletry Pack OSP Donation Collection- We need our Spartan parents to go to OSP and make a donation towards purchasing our toiletries for this year’s Street Grace Packs. The #MYFREEDOMDAY/STREET GRACE OSP be collecting funds starting today, 2/25 until Friday, March 5.
- March 16 – My Freedom Day 2020- 8 th period. Spartan students will be invited to come to the cafeteria 8 th period to help create the Street Grace Packs. Students will also be asked to sign the #MYFREEDOMDAY pledge. Sign up link for students is below. This is open for all Spartans. This counts for all honor societies community service hours. As part of the NSCHS Freshman Academy initiative, we hope to motivate our students to feel compelled to reach beyond themselves, increase their own personal awareness and understanding on global issues, thus increasing their empathy for others, while also recognizing that as blessed as we are in our own country and community, there are those within hands reach that we can support, as well.
