Presented here is the Oracle’s first official foray into the world of professional podcasting, featuring several stories recorded by members of the Echo Literary Magazine class and members of the Thespian Society, using new Zoom equipment and our student build sound booth, purchased for the specific aim of bringing podcasting to the North Springs community.

As part of Saturday’s community-wide Arts Festival at North Springs, the NSHS Thespian society will present a story-telling project, and plans to make it available to more North Springs students. The Thespians will have a station where people can go, put on a pair of headphones, and listen to a recorded story about a memory that a student has.

Theater instructor Mr. Owens says, “This idea is a combination of a common playwrighting exercise called ‘I Remember’ and StoryCorps Atlanta (A place in Atlanta where you can go and archive a voice recording of a family story). They play these on WABE/ NPR from time to time as a recording history project. Students write a short story that begins with the words “I remember.” It’s not fiction; it’s really a monologue or oral story. Once it’s written and redrafted, it is then told/performed and recorded.”

In the future, the Thespians are also thinking of accepting voice recordings from the general school population as a way to give access to students who don’t have a teacher / writing coach.
