MomoCon is an Anime Convention held from May 25th to the 28th in the Georgia World Congress Center. This year, there were lots of new people at the convention. Many fun events happened but some bad ones happened too.
At the 2023 convention, there were numerous people who cosplayed ‘Nicolas D. Wolfwood’ from ‘Trigun Stampede’ which aired earlier that year, the series is a reboot of ‘Trigun’ which aired in 1998, all over the convention where cloth covered crosses which are in fact a giant gun that Nicolas carried around in the franchise. There was a ‘Trigun Cosplay Meetup’ held on one of the days of the convention where cosplayers from the first series, manga and reboot had a photoshoot. The meetup had doughnuts which were provided by ‘Vash The Stampede’ cosplayers, an item that Vash is often seen with in the 1998 version.
On the second day of MomoCon, many Spider-Man cosplayers were spread out across the courtyard where they pointed at each other like a well-known meme in the Marvel community. The cosplayers attempted to beat the Guinness World Record of most Spider-Man cosplayers in an area, they had around 450 attendants while the most was 685, so they did not beat the record. Next year they will try again and hopefully beat the record.
There are many escalators in the GWCC, one of them malfunctioned during the convention which made MomoCon attendees use the stairs, the convention goers decided to have fun about it on the internet and made many jokes about it.
While there was lot of fun at MomoCon this year, there were also negative things that happened.
On the second day of MomoCon, Ed Sheeran (The Ginger Artist from England) was hosting a concert right down the road from the convention. As the cosplayers were walking outside of the convention building, they were constantly harassed by Ed Sheeran’s fans. There were many reports of cosplayers getting tazed by the aggressive fans. Ed Sheeran has a problematic history, so the mishap was not a good thing on his or his fans image.
At big conventions, there are going is be creepy people. An unnamed ‘Steven Universe’ cosplayer from the series ‘Steven Universe’ went around and followed around cosplayers, making them extremely uncomfortable. The male started to harass ‘Houseki No Kuni’ also known as ‘Land Of The Lustrous’ cosplayers, telling them to engage in suggestive actions. The two friends were dressed up as the characters ‘Diamond’ and ‘Bort’ who are implied siblings Houseki No Kuni.
As shown, there were many things that happened at MomoCon 23, its well known that the convention guest had fun. Many people made new friends there. Hopefully next year, its just as fun and maybe even more!
