On Friday, March 7, 2025, at 12:30 PM, North Springs students evacuated the building. The cause of the gas leak was a gas pipe that ruptured at site of new school building that is currently being built for opening in 2027.. Students were evacuated at 11:25 and sent to the school parking lot, waiting to go back into the school. Once students waited outside for over 10 minutes and saw the fire truck, the reality of the evacuation hit them–this was no pulled fire alarm.

When the evacuation started, a rumor started going around that gas was leaking, and no one was sure when they were going back to class. After 10 more minutes, the administration announced that indeed a gas pipe was leaking, and everyone would need to leave early to go home. The students that took all their belongings with them during the evacuation were so happy, but others who didn’t, not so much. Students were not allowed back into the school no matter what they left behind and had to wait until Monday, March 10, to get back their belongings. Students started to leave one by one until no one was left at the school.

The following email was sent out to the parents explaining what happened and why their students had to leave the school early:

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We regret to inform you that a gas line was ruptured by a contractor at North Springs High School. As a result, we are implementing an early dismissal for all students today. All students and staff were safely evacuated.

Key Information:

· Transportation: Buses will begin departing immediately.

· Carpool pickup must enter Dalrymple Road and will exit onto Roswell Road.

· Alternative Location: Sandy Springs Middle School will serve as the alternative location for any students who were not picked up or does not ride the bus.

· Extracurricular Activities: All extracurricular activities at North Springs High School are cancelled.

· Personal Items: We will provide more information on an expected time for retrieving personal items not collected upon dismissal.

· Repair ETA: There is currently no estimated time for the repair of the gas line. Updates will be provided regarding repairs and access on Monday.

· Feeder Schools: Preliminary communications have been shared with feeder schools.
